Package microtype Warning: Unable to apply patch..

Overleaf templates come with some warnings out-of-the-box, e.g. this for the FI template:

Package microtype Warning: Unable to apply patch `item' on input line 105.

This is the case for (every?) fithesis template, needs some further investigation. Users are confused about the warning, even though these are only warnings, not errors.
